God’s Architecture

What is God’s architecture?

Well there are many different beliefs so it depends on which one you associate yourself with. God’s architecture has changed over time and many religious places have adapted to the modern world. The beauty of religious architecture is clear throughout from the highly decorated and coloured Hindu temples to the simply decorated but still beautiful Christian churches/cathedrals.

All these forms of religious architecture are sited in beautiful and marked place of religion. For Islamic worshipers the orientation of the mosque is very important as it has to face Mecca for them to worship. As for Buddhist temples they are placed on higher ground in beautifully landscape areas. By placing the temple on higher ground it is believed that bad spirits can not cross the threshold of the temple making it a very sacred place.

What all these types of architecture have in common is that Light is very important to all religions. Light is used and manipulated to create the sense of calm and warmth.

I’ve been lucky to see the Notre Dame in person, the grandeur and beauty is showed in the interior and exterior of this architecture. Highly decorated on its exterior with statues and in The french gothic style. It was very iconic in its style which was changed forever on the 15th April 2019 when a accidental fire started and part of the roof and a spire was lost.

Temppeliaukio church in Helsinki is a beautiful piece of architecture. My family got to see it in person and told me it is a wonderful, peaceful and unique place. Found underground where it has been hewn out of rock in the middle of a residential area. There was always ment to be a church in this location but World War 2 stopped the church from being built. However after the war a competition was held and the new design of the church was created. It has a copper dome with 180 windows that circle it. The copper roof casts sunlight in different directions to help light up the interior space.

Finally the Rosslyn chapel is a unique piece of architecture in itself as it seems to be influenced by many different religious cultures and styles. The outside looks like the typical catholic chapel but inside is beautiful ornate and highly decorative with different animals and patterns.
